Fujifilm Expands X-Series Lineup with New X-Pro2, X-E2S, X70, XP90 Cameras and XF100-400mm F4.5-5.6 R LM OIS WR Lens, Announces New Firmware for the X-E2

Fujifilm has announced multiple new X-Series cameras, including the new X-Pro2, X-E2S, and X70 models with APS-C Size sensors, a new compact shock resistant and waterproof model called the XP90, and a new FUJINON XF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 R LM OIS WR Lens.  
Fujifilm also announced that new firmware will be released to give the X-E2 the same software enhancements included with the new X-E2S.  That’s sure to please existing X-E2 owners.

The new X-Pro2 is a very interesting camera that Fujifilm is calling its new Flagship.  It’s a range-finder style camera with a unique Hybrid Viewfinder that allows a user to instantly switch between an optical and an electronic viewfinder (EVF).  

The EVF has 2.36 Million dots of with dots of resolution with a refresh rate of  85 frames per second, so it should be a winner for photographers that prefer an EVF, while still giving users the choice of using an optical viewfinder instead. This camera also has a 3″ rear display with 1.62 Million dots of resolution.

The new X-Pro2  camera should please photographers looking for superb performance for capturing action, since it has a phase detection Autofocus System with Motion Predictive Algorithms, combined with the camera’s ability to shoot at up to 8 frames per second. In addition, it should be great for use in less than optimum lighting, with a maximum ISO speed of up to 12800, with extended ISO setting of 25600, and 51200 available.

Multiple shooting modes are available for more creativity, including film simulation modes and time lapse photography with lots of flexibility in settings. The camera also supports wireless connectivity for control and printing of images, thanks to via software applications Fujifilm is providing for Android and IOS equipped smart phones and tablets.

This new camera should also please video fans, with the ability to shoot Full HD video at 1080p with a bit rate of 36 megabits per second.  It supports frame rates of 60fps, 50fps, 30fps, 25fps and 24fps for more flexibility for use in different markets.

The new X-Pro2 has also has Professional Level build quality, thanks to a body that is dust and splash resistant, with 61 points of weather protection, and it is freeze resistant down to 14 degrees Fahrenheit, and will have optional accessories available including a MHG-Xpro2 hand grip.

The FUJIFILM X-Pro2 (body only) will be available in February 2016 for USD $ 1,699.95 and CAD $ 1,899.99.

Next up in today’s announcement from Fujifilm is  the X-E2S, a new range finder style, mirrorless interchangeable lens camera with a 16.3 Megapixel APC-C X-Trans CMOS II Sensor. This new model supports a “Real Time” Viewfinder with 0.62x magnification, with an  Electronic Viewfinder (EVF) that Fujifilm claims has the world’s shortest lag time of only 0.0005 seconds (5/1000 of a second). If you’ve used EVFs with a display that lags behind your subject, you should be very pleased with the EVF on the new X-E2S.

This new model also supports an improved grip compared to the X-E2 mode that preceded it, and also includes an enhanced Autofocus System. The new X-E2 is also equipped with a 3″ LCD display with 1.04 Million dots of resolution.

The new AF System includes a 49 point single focus mode for more precise focusing, as well as new Zone and Wide Tracking modes with a 77 point area for capturing rapidly moving subjects. Users can also set ISO speeds of up to 51,200 for more sensitivity that allows faster shutter speeds in low light.

As with the new X-Pro2, the new E-X2 also includes a film simulation mode to enhance creativity. The E-X2 also supports wireless connectivity for control and printing of images, thanks to via software applications Fujifilm is providing for Android and IOS equipped smart phones and tablets.

This new camera can also capture Full HD video at 1080p with a bit rate of 36 megabits per second.  It supports frame rates of 60fps, 50fps, 30fps, 25fps and 24fps for more flexibility for use in different markets.

An optional hand grip will also be offered.  The FUJIFILM X-E2S (body only) will be available in February 2016 for USD $ 699.95 and CAD $ 899.99. The FUJIFILM X-E2S kit (with FUJINON LENS XF18-55mmF2.8-4 R LM OIS) will be available for USD $ 999.95 and CAD $ 1,249.99.

Note that Fujifilm has also announced that they will be releasing new firmware to give X-E2 owners the same software enhancements included with the new X-E2S.  This new firmware should be available next month in early February 2016.

FUJIFILM X-70

The new X-70 is a new fixed lens camera design with a 16.3 Megapixel APS-C X-Trans CMOS II Sensor, sporting an 18.5mm f/2.8 lens (giving users the same angle of view that a 28mm lens would give you if using a 35mm format model).

The X-70 is designed to please photographers that love manual settings, with simple manual operation combined with versatile picture taking formats. It sports aluminum dials that allow aperture settings in 1/3 stop increments, as well as a new Auto Moe switch for photographers that prefer to let the camera pick the best settings.

The new camera also comes equipped with a touch screen display that rotates 180 degrees with neat features like finger scrolling up images, pinch out and pinch in to enlarge or reduce the image size, with touch panel control of many settings.

As with the new X-E2S, the new X70 also includes a new AF System which uses a 49 point single focus mode for more precise focusing, as well as new Zone and Wide Tracking modes with a 77 point area for capturing rapidly moving subjects. The new XP90 is a rugged, compact digital camera that is waterproof to 50 feet (15 Meters) and is shockproof so that it can survive drops from up to 5.8 feet (1.75 meters).   It’s also freeze proof to 14 degrees Fahrenheit (-10C). This new camera features a 16.4-megapixel CMOS Sensor with a zoom lens equivalent to 28-140mm with a 35mm format model. It also supports WiFi connectivity for one touch transfers to smartphones and tables and captures full HD video at 1080P.

This new model sports a 3-inch LCD with anti-reflective coating and also includes optical image stabilization, a variety of shooting modes including time lapse movies, HDR Image Capture, Motion Panorama capture and more. It even includes a neat 480 frame per second slow motion mode for  very interesting videos.

The new XP90 will be available in Blue, Yellow, Graphite with Green, and Graphite with Orange so you can find a color scheme that is more pleasing to individual taste. The FinePix XP90 will be available in February 2016 for USD $ 229.95 \ CAD $ 239.99.

The new FUJINON XF-100-40mm f/4-5-5.R LM OIS WR Lens is sure to please shooters looking or a premium quality lens that can reach out and bring in distant subjects closer, as it gives users that same angle of view they’d have using a 150-60mm lens on a 35mm camera, when attached to an X-Series Camera model using an APS-C size sensor

This lens is designed with very high build quality, with weather sealing for use in harsher environments.  It also includes an image stabilization system that Fujfilm says will provide up to 5 stops of improvement to reduce blur from camera shake, and sports twin linear focus motors to improve focusing speed when following rapidly moving subjects.

Optical Quality should also be superb, with a design made up of 21 elements in 14 groups, with 5 ED Lenses and one Super ED Lens to help reduce chromatic aberrations.  A fluorine coating has also been applied to the front lens element to help repel moisture and improve image quality. Fujifilm says that this new lens will deliver the highest image quality in its class.

The FUJINON XF100-400mmF4.5-5.6 R LM OIS WR will be available in February 2016 for USD $ 1,899.95 and CAD $ 2,149.99.

New firmware for the original FUJIFILM X-E2

Fujifilm will release a new firmware update for the original FUJIFILM X-E2 that will give it the same software improvements as the new FUJIFILM X-E2S. The firmware will include the updated autofocus system, improved performance and the new graphical user interface, along with several functional enhancements. The FUJIFILM X70 is a newly designed premium fixed lens digital camera that features a FUJINON 18.5mmF2.8 lens (28mm in 35mm format equivalent), suitable for a range of applications from landscapes to everyday snapshots. The new X70 elegantly combines simple manual operation with superior image quality and versatile picture-taking functions, and is the first X-Series camera to offer a touchscreen display that rotates 180 degrees, enabling users to shoot from up high, down low and capture selfies.
