When you’re transferring pictures or video files from your USB drive to your computer – or vice versa – you don’t want to have to wait around for hours. USB thumb drives have traditionally left a lot to be desired in terms of speed, but the USB 3.0 standard is improving things nicely.
The new Kingston DataTraveler HyperX 3.0 has a maximum read rate of 225MB/s and a max write rate of 135MB/s. That read rate is up to a gig in four seconds, which means the 256GB capacity HyperX drive can be emptied in around 16 minutes, while it would take a USB 2.0 drive a little over an hour.
The DataTraveler HyperX 3.0 is available in a 64GB size at $ 199 ($ 142 on Amazon), 128GB for $ 379 ($ 279 on Amazon). The 256GB size will be priced and made available soon.
