Sharp is Introducing the World’s Thinnest Image Stabilizing CMOS Sensor

Sharp-CMOS.jpgYou might not think of Sharp when you think of cameras, but the company has developed the world’s thinnest CMOS module with image stabilization. The sensor is designed to provide higher quality image to mobile devices that are increasingly slim.

The sensor is capable of 12.1 megapixel photos as well as 1080p video. Sharp says the camera is strong in low-light situations thanks to the stabilization feature that utilizes a lens-shift system.

Sharp will be sending out samples to manufacturers later this month with full scale shipments starting in January. They’re looking for around $ 150 per sensor and are planning to make up to 100,000 sensors a month.
