One of the big problems with trying to make laws regarding photography is that even something with the best of intentions can cause a lot of problems for photographers that are staying within the bounds of normal shooting.
A new, incredibly vague law in Washington DC prohibits photographers from spending more than five minutes in one location. Seriously. If you’re sticking around one place for more than five minutes, you could be fined or even thrown in jail.
The law was designed with the folks that take portraits of strangers on city sidewalks in mind, but the with the current wording it could apply to any photographer, even if they’re just taking a picture of, for example, one of the many monuments in Washington DC.
