Happy Friday, everyone. Hot off our digital presses, Eric and Kyle have been hard at work evaluating the latest cameras in for review. If you or a loved one are in the market for a mirrorless camera, you’ll definitely want to check out all three.
First up, we have the new Canon EOS M5, their first relevant Mirrorless ILC. It features newly developed 24.2MP CMOS image sensor as well as the new DIGIC 7 image processor, giving the camera above average performance and great image quality at the lower ISO settings and loaded with features. It’s basically an EOS 80D in a much more compact body (plus a few updates).
Next, we have the X100F, Fujifilm’s retro rangefinder with a f/2 35mm equivalent prime lens, 24.3-megapixel APS-C image sensor, and an upgraded 91-point AF system. While this one’s a bit pricey and made for enthusiasts looking for a more tactile, manual experience, it produces outstanding, sharp images. If you’re a portrait or street photographer who loves shooting in low light, this is a Must Read review.
Last, and definitely not least, we have the Olympus PEN E-PL8, which is more of an entry-level Micro Four Thirds ILC aimed at anyone looking to make the jump from smartphone photography. With a 16.1MP Live MOS image sensor mated to a TruePic VII image processor, the compact PL8 is a fast performer that produces good images in a variety of shooting conditions and offers tons of special effect and Art Filter modes for those looking to stylize their photos. There are even some manual modes for more advanced photographers. That said, if you already own an E-PL7, the E-PL8 isn’t a dramatic upgrade.
