Over the last year or two we’ve seen massive panoramas, some amazing HDR shots and plenty of other cool effects. Still, the creativity of photographers manages to impress.
A photographer named Stephen Wilkes came up with an incredibly cool idea – show the transition from day to night in a single image. The effect ranges from subtle to drastic depending on the location of the photograph and the execution of the technique. In both cases, it’s incredibly cool.
Wilkes achieved this by setting up a camera forty feet off of the ground in a cherry picker and photographing the same scene throughout the day. He kept his aperture constant and adjusted shutter speed to reflect the changing light. Once all the photographs were done, he picked the best of the bunch and merged the photos in Photoshop to create these slick transitions.
