Nikon and Canon have already been counted in the companies that were hugely affected by the flood in Thailand and now it seems that Sony is among them. The camera maker’s Thailand based plant is now submerged under about three meters of water.
The plant didn’t make full cameras, but CCD and CMOS sensors for DSLRs, point-and-shoots and smartphones, including the iPhone. Sony also makes sensors for Nikon cameras, which will further damage Nikon; which was already reeling in the wake of losing a plant of its own.
The Bangkok Post reports that the Sony plant is the seventh industrial area to suffer this kind of damage. The mayor of the municipality that houses the plant as well as 47 others says that it could take as long as a month before the water is cleared out.
