For 12 years now, the Kodak theater in Hollywood has been home to some major events, including the Oscars on a yearly basis. This year will be a bit different, not because the Oscars are moving, but the theater will don an unfamiliar name.
“It will be live from the Hollywood and Highland Center in Hollywood, California,” says Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences president Tom Sherak. “That’s what the landlord has asked us to do and we’re going to do it.”
The details of just who made the decision are a bit confusing, since they involve a landlord, a building owner, a bankrupt company and the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences. The important thing is the end result – the removal of the Kodak name.
